And the end of all our exploring

Will be to arrive where we started

And know the place for the first time’ T.S.Eliot

Supervision at Waterloo Counselling

Supervision allows practitioners to explore how we work, how we connect and how to be good clinicians. It is a space to be open about our struggles and to be guided and supported in clinical practice. When we explore how we work and think deeply about this, we allow for change and growth. I work psychodynamically, enabling you to reflect on unconscious conflicts and to better understand and strengthen your relationship with your client. Please note I am not a registered BACP supervisor but have 10 years of mentoring and supervision experience in university and NHS settings.

What kind of supervisor do I need?

If you are looking for a supervisor, you will want to work with someone who has experience of offering supervision and can help you to support and understand your client. I have many years of experience working with counselling trainees at Birkbeck, University of London and offering group supervision. Offer a safe environment in which to think about your client and how to work effectively to enable change and growth.

Getting started with a supervision relationship

Just as with starting counselling, the first step is to call or email, letting me know a little bit about yourself and what you are looking for in terms of supervision. If you think the supervision I offer is right for you, we will arrange for you to come to Waterloo counselling for an initial session. We think together about what you need, how often you may need to come for supervision and what would be affordable to you. You can have 1-2-1 supervision sessions or you can come with another supervisee, which some people prefer and also means you can make the sessions more affordable.

Charges — affordable supervision

At Waterloo Counselling I charge £70 per 50-minute session. I offer reduced rates for trainees and people on low wage and want to ensure the supervision sessions are affordable for you. Low rate sessions are usually in the day and you can call or email me for more details.

Waterloo counselling space

Waterloo counselling is easy to access via public transport. For details on how to get there and other inquiries, please see the Practicalities page. The counselling rooms are quite small and so I can offer supervision for one or two people at a time. Sessions are also available on zoom.

Waterloo Counselling — Lectures and workshops

Therapy does not happen in a vacuum. The person coming for therapy is impacted by racism, oppressions and poverty as well strengthened by beliefs systems, cultures and ways of living that are varied and expansive . I run monthly reading groups, welcome to all mental health professionals, where we allow a space to think about global impactors on the individual. We welcome speakers from different disciplines to talk to the group, to stretch and inspire our thinking and to challenge our beliefs. The ‘time for change’ group aims to allow for vulnerability, mistakes and an honest examination of our strengths and shortcomings as people and professionals.

Readings groups are free and workshops are charged. To be added to our mailing list please email me or visit: Time for Change

I also run workshops on trauma, transgenerational trauma and the impact of society on the individual.
